The Canon EOS 5D digital SLR is a premium digital SLR designed for a wide range of photographers, combining the high-end specifications of the EOS-1 Line and the operational ease of the EOS 20D models, with film-like ability to record light and a super-high mega pixel rating. The camera features a Canon-designed & manufactured CMOS image sensor. At 12.8 mega pixels, there is enough resolution for a double-page spread in a magazine, a large print of the bride & groom, facial detail in group shots or a landscape of impressive dimensions.

Other specifications are improved over the A-Listed EOS 350D too, although none are major. Getting the proper 3.5 percent spot-metering capability, artificially missing from the lower-end Canon SLRs digital cameras, in addition to the standard 8 per cent partial spot. Shutter speed extends down to 1/8,000th of a second too, although this is only useful for minimum depth of field in bright conditions for creative purposes. Burst frame rate is still only 3fps - the same rating as the 350D and slower than the EOS 20D - although the burst buffer is far larger, with capacity for around 17 RAW frames and 60 JPEGs.

In addition, the camera’s ISO sensitivity can be extended up to ISO 3,200. Shots at this sensitivity suffer from the occasional hot pixel and pronounced noise, but the noise is very much akin to chemical film grain and isn’t terribly distracting. The Standard setting produces images that are crisp and vivid with the sharpness set to mid-scale and the color tone and saturation set to obtain vivid colors. In the Portrait setting, the color tone and saturation are set to obtain nice skin tones with the sharpness set one step weaker than the Standard setting so the skin and hair look softer. Under the Landscape setting, the color tone and saturation are set to obtain deep blues and greens, the sharpness is set one step stronger than Standard so the outline of mountains, trees, and buildings look crisper.

The Neutral setting is the same as the default setting for EOS-1 series cameras where natural color reproduction is obtained and no sharpness is applied. This is the setting Canon suggests you use for developing RAW files. Monochrome is the same as the EOS 20D camera’s monochrome (black-and-white) setting and with User Defined, you can create and save three of your own preferred settings. The canon 5d digital photography takes Compact Flash memory, and to get the most out of the camera when shooting in RAW mode you’ll need to make a significant investment in storage. RAW files average around 12MB each that help you can keep more picture than another cameras, but the space for stored depends on the memory card which is in your memory card slot.
